Dropped my Facebook and Twitter accounts again. Think it's gonna stick this time. I'm experiencing narcissism and craziness and internet meme fatigue. If future success is really dependent on how many followers you have, I may have just screwed the pooch, but I'm old-school like that.
If you're here because you were all like, "Hey, what happened to Trent?" Here I am. I can always be reached at my email address firstname.lastname@example.org. Just FYI. Or you can leave a comment below ... heck, all the spam-bots can do it, why can't you?
So what the HELL have I done with myself since the last update back in February?
CHEAP THRILLS had its World Premiere at SXSW. The reviews, of which there are myriad and almost universally positive, are all over the internet if you want to look em up. At SXSW, there was a bidding war over the film after one screening and it eventually sold to the new-but-amazing company DRAFTHOUSE FILMS, which is owned by the same people who created the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain, so the film is in great hands. From what I hear, it's going to do a small theatrical run and go to VOD in January, 2014.
The film has been making the film festival rounds, screening in Europe, Korea, New Zealand, and Australia. It just won the NEW FLESH award for Best First Feature at Canada's FANTASIA film festival. It'll be playing both London's FrightFest and Austin's Fantastic Fest in the next few months.
It's pretty amazing. This was a script that I wrote back in 2008 or so and when my agents and management read it they were like, "Why do you waste your time writing stuff like this?" And, like DEADGIRL before it, the script sat on a shelf collecting dust until a first-time director decided to take a chance on it.
Rest assured, I haven't been resting on my laurels for six months ...
I'm currently working on 3 screenwriting projects in various stages of development - two scripts for the Lifetime Network and a bigger-budget script for the producers of CHEAP THRILLS. And writing three scripts in 6 months takes up a bit of time, ya know?
On the acting front, I did a couple of small but fun roles in STARRY EYES and THE PACT 2.
Also shot some stuff for the BLACK DEVIL DOLL TV series that we're supposed to shoot later on in the year:
Was a Judge at the Viscera Film Festival. HEEBIE JEEBIES came out on DVD from Sony Pictures and haunts me from every Redbox in the country. At least the box art was somewhat interesting:
So, yeah. I'll try to do more updates when I can ... but I'm not gonna put photos of what I ate for dinner or update how many pages I wrote today or put up shirtless selfies. But if there's anything that needs to be known, I'll post it up here.
By the way, this guy never had a Facebook or Twitter account:
